Online Dress Return Not Accepted in Store

So I went to return a dress (either mail/store return) to a smaller TjMaxx store. The manager who was helping the cashier make the online return said I couldn’t return it in their store because it was a runway item. He mentioned only certain stores carry those. Either I will have to mail it back or go to a store that carry the runway items to do it. Has this occurred to any of you?
