Not feeling my shoulders during planet fitness’s machine lateral raises

Something about my arms flapping to the sides while holding onto the handles infront of me, and not sweeping out to the sides like a normal lateral raise feels off for me.. Yes! I do go to planet fitness! I'm a rural creature and it's all I have, they have no free barbells as I'm sure you already know. Of course the deadlift is the best lift for general strength, no contest, you don't have to explain to me that the deadlift is the best. Should I handle a leg press machine with sliding seat differently?

I go to a Planet Fitness and the pin loaded leg press machine they have there uses a seat on a sled that you push up and back with the movement.
