Notched ears?

Husband bought a lop-eared black rabbit from Pet Supermarket over the summer. This sub has been invaluable to me to learn about best practices for care, and we've come to love him so much! My kiddo pointed out something going on with his ears, however. Do yall know if pet stores notch bunny ears? He has two notches, one on each ear, that are symmetrical. If so, what the actual heck??
