Should I grieve? Is this a death bloom?

My friend bought this plant for me at least 15 years ago as a tiny baby (about 4 inches big). She got it at Big Lots and it wasn’t living its best life but it’s never had an ID. Now it’s got a giant bloom spike and since I don’t know the ID of the plant I’m afraid this is a death spike. Can you help ID for me?
