Returning Items

Being wrong is one thing (cashier) not knowing something is another (customer) I went to return some items and the cashier wouldn't give me my money back for a pacific item that had been opened but never used. I had my receipt and I paid in cash so was she correct all I need to know? It's always this particular Dollar Tree in my city.
