LPT Request: Essential Tips for New Immigrants/FOBs - Share Your Wisdom

As an older FOB (came to Canada in 2012), I've been fortunate to learn from families who immigrated here in the 70s. They shared invaluable hacks that I feel many newer immigrants miss out on. Here are my top tips, and I'd love for others to add theirs: Cooking & Food Prep **Set up an outdoor cooking station:** If you have a balcony or backyard, invest in an induction or camping stove. I...

Tell us about your first silver purchase.

Please share your first experience with buying silver. For me it was a purchase of bars at Costco. I didn’t really know about local coin shops yet and didn’t like the idea of an online purchase. It took a while to get someone to help me, and I was pretty nervous just walking out of the store with 10 bars. Kind of wish they would have come in a box. After I got them home and really looked at ...

Meals: tricks for feeding the family

I’m a mom to a 13 month old and my husband and I both work full time. I recently moved to the suburbs from the city and am switching to a remote job. I worked an extremely demanding job in the city and got home very late so we basically survived on takeout. My husband takes on the vast majority of cleaning and other house tasks, but really can’t cook. Now I’m switching to a slightly less dem...

Costco is the worst store ever. (At least in Australia)

It's so big and everything is just EXPENSIVE, they don't have anything that the kids can look at, I thought they would have manga, but NO. Its just the most overrated store and the only reason my family wastes their time there is because of the 30c cheaper fuel.

Need Vacuum Recommendation Under $500 that is easy to handle for disabled individuals

Hello! I'm in search of a vacuum for me and my roommate, preferably under $300, but I put $500 as sometimes they can go on sale for much cheaper. My roommate and I are both physically disabled, but I'll speak mostly for my needs as I'm most likely the one going to be using it for the most part. We have a 998sq ft apartment with carpet for bedrooms and bedroom closets, and laminate flooring everywh...

Store that sold old Costco items

Several years ago (like pre-COVID) there was a store in Orchards, around 117th Ave, that sold all kinds of random stuff, a lot of which was old items from Costco. I don’t remember the name of it. Does anyone know if it is still there (Can’t find it on google maps) or if there is a similar store in the area?

Navitas cacao and One Degree oats

Doesn’t it drive you nuts when you get something great at Costco and then they don’t have it again after that? Sometimes I think they plan to get you hooked on a good product, and then you have to find it at a natural foods store for 10 times more money. The One Degree oats are great. Get them if you see them and like oatmeal. They even smell delicious. I love that cacao too. It seems better ...

Way to handle existing gift cards

Hey everyone, Basically simple issue, I started YNAB a little while ago and I had some uber eats gift cards I buy at 25% discount at Costco and use them when I have coupons on uber eats so I can double stack deals on groceries/eating out. There was just a great deal on meats from grocery stores and I used the gift cards. Is there a way I can track this against my grocery category for this...

Went to Costco today and here’s my observations. Feel free to share your observations/ grievances as well.

Today’s Costco ponderings: 1. People inhaling free samples and then decorating the shelves with their used cups and wrappers like it’s some kind of modern art installation. Meanwhile there are garbage cans all over. 2. One family grabbed food from the food court and decided to have a full-on picnic at one of the product display tables inside the summer / seasonal aisle. 3. Trying to pa...

Night merch taking over stocking from morning merch

I work at a costco in the Midwest and we are adopting how the Canada stores and bay area stores stock. Night merch is currently stocking freezer and soon they will take over cooler, D19 and produce. We were just told this is happening and that morning merch will become a skeleton crew. For the stores that do this already, does night merch just do those departments or does night merch stock all the...

To the guy who was stealing cherries at Costco today...

So, tonight around 8 pm at Costco Watford, I witnessed one of the most shameless bits of theft I’ve ever seen. A guy came in with what looked like his brother and his young son. Right in front of me, he opened a box of cherries from the shelf and just started eating them. He knew I had seen him do it, but didn’t even flinch or attempt to correct the wrong.. His brother then joined in, grabbi...
